About the Route 2 Overpass Study
Constructed during the urban renewal era of the 1950s, the Route 2 Overpass divides downtown North Adams in half, constitutes a significant barrier to community connectivity, and was recently declared "structurally deficient" by the Department of Transportation.
The Route 2 Overpass Study will consider past planning efforts, analyze the flow of cars and people in and around downtown North Adams, and explore potential transformative alternatives to the overpass that support connectivity, mobility, and downtown revitalization.
The study will include concrete recommendations for next steps to chart a course for the future of downtown North Adams.
